No, you don’t need qualifications to be a home carer in the UK. At Abney & Baker we provide full training so that our employees are fully qualified and equipped with all the skills necessary to provide excellent care. We provide full training and ongoing support in your caregiver’s work environment.
Duties of a Home Carer:
Provide care and support to people’s loved ones who can no longer manage day to day at home on their own. This is where the “care” part comes in.
Help them eat, get washed and dressed; give companionship care and support; help with housework like cooking, cleaning and laundry; support with getting to doctor’s appointments or other social needs (e.g. shopping); preparing meals or snacks; home help & personal care.
In the UK, care assistants do not require certification to work. However, many care assistant roles may require a Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Caregiving. The National Care Certificate is an award offered by the Skills for Care and Development Agency that recognises care staff who have met national standards. It is not mandatory, but it may be useful for those looking to pursue a career in care.
